Sexual Orientation

Today, i would like to explore about sexual orientation, which many people often have missperception about it, moreover have judgmental opinion about it as negative sexual behavior. So, people think that sexual orientation resemble with sexual behavior. In fact, sexual orientation is not sexual behavior. Sexual orientation describes as an enduring pattern of emotional, romantic, and/or sexual attractions to men, women or both sexes. It also refers to a person's sense of identity based on those attractions, related behaviors, and membership in a community of other sho share those attractions. These attraction is categorized as homosexuality (attraction to same sex), heterosexuality (attraction to different sex), bisexuality (attraction to both sex) and asexuality (attraction to none). 

There is no specific reason of why people have different sexual orientation. Some studies believes that how people express their attraction to other person is culturally socially constructed. Heterosexuality is considered by society as "normal" sexual orientation. While homosexuality and bisexuality are strongly condemned by people, specially by religious leaders. In some tradition, we can accept selibacy way of life when it attaches to certain purposes. For instance in Catholic, the prist and nun cannot marry. They must keep their chastity for God. Some Sufi believes that maried life may interupt his / her focus to serve God. 

In term of homosexuality, there are variant of this group, which sometimes our languange cannot explain the existance of this group. My study to one of Islamic boarding school in Indonesia reveals that muslim single women has their own definition of lesbian, attraction to same sex for female. Below is the way they define lesbian: 

The boundary of being lesbian is having physical contact with the same sex, when it arouses lust (Euis)

The boundary of being a lesbian is body contact with the same sex, when this arouses lust between both (Amel)

(I once witnessed it, the same sex touching and petting each other. The first time I did not realise it, but later on it was horrifying, the more so when I saw lesbian photographs (Eda)

From their narrative, It is very clear that they define lesbian as a girl who do sexual activities with other girl. Can somebody liking same sex without expressing their feeling to sexual activities, consider as lesbian? Lesbian or homosexuality is not about how person express their feeling into sexual behavior. It is about inclination of someone to having their feeling, romantic and attraction to other, who can be a woman, man, both or none. In Islam, men and women are requested to keep chastity before marriage. Meaning it is valid for all sexual orientations. 

If you say that homosexuality tends to have multi relationship. We find in our society that poligamous practice are widely spreading, which to me it is also form of multi - relationships way of life. If you say that homosexuality often express their desire in public. We have many evidences that heterosexual couples also express their desire to public. If you go to public park in the town, you may see how people express their sexuality. You mau say that homosexuality is root cause of HIV/AIDs. Currently, it is about 14775 people infected by  HIV/AIDs from heterosexual relation. It is highter compare to homosexual pasien, which is 9392 people. So, lets respect one each other. Sexual Orientation does not necessarily to lead to violence and injustice conducts. Can we violate the rights of people because of their sexual orientation? Absolutely NO ***
